Imran Ciesay (Film Photographer) Places + Faces

Imran Ciesay is a London based film photographer who focuses on capturing famous hip-hop artists and people in the hip-hop industry as portraits. He currently runs a website and YouTube channel called 'Places Plus Faces' where Ciesay travels across the world, usually following different rappers, and captures the scenes and celebrities. Places + Faces demonstrates Imran Ciesay’s knack for capturing figures of the very upper tier of the hip hop world with their guards down, in candid, un-posed shots that show them as real people and not performers. Ciesay has also released a Zine called 'Places + Faces Vol. 1' which carries portraits of many artists in the music industry. I was initially drawn to Ciesay because of his interest in point and shoot photography as he mainly uses a Contax T2 compact camera. I found this very interesting because most people do not use point and shoot cameras anymore, and Ciesay has brought this back into fashion in the modern world.

Ideas (Evaluation)

Within  my project I believe that my aim was to focus on the editing of the photo rather than what the photo being taken was. The inverse has happened recently in society where film, polaroid, and analog functions of photography and technology for example vinyl's instead of downloading music have been used because they have a feeling of character and emotion instead of everything being done for you. In my project, I have tried to bring back the other components of photography, and almost what would've gone wrong in classic film photography and videography by editing them to look this way.

Rob Sheridan - Artist Research (Glitch Art)

Rob Sheridan (born October 11, 1979) is an American graphic designer, director, and photographer best known for his extensive work with the band Nine Inch Nails. I found Sheridan particularly interesting because he focuses his glitch art on mainly the videography-type glitching to look similar to old VHS images on television. He also uses a lot of portrait shots to edit which turned out very nice because the mouth or eyes are distorted in the image.
